Zambia

Home to some of Africa’s most untouched wilderness.

Zambia offers a safari experience that feels raw and unfiltered, where vast national parks remain largely undiscovered by mainstream tourism. Exceptional guiding, diverse landscapes, and a sense of true exploration make Zambia one of Africa’s best-kept safari secrets.

Zambia is one of Southern Africa’s most rewarding and least crowded safari destinations - renowned for its unspoiled wilderness, expert guides, and authentic experiences.

Bordered by Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia is home to legendary rivers like the Zambezi and Luangwa, and offers an extraordinary variety of landscapes, from lush floodplains and miombo woodlands to dramatic escarpments and river valleys.

Zambia is where the walking safari was born – and still thrives today in places like South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi National Parks. The country’s national parks and private conservancies are often less developed than in other parts of Africa, offering a more adventurous and immersive feel.

With seasonal bush camps, canoe safaris, and fly-in access to remote areas, Zambia appeals to travellers looking for connection, solitude, and wild beauty.

Wildlife in Zambia

Zambia’s wildlife tells the story of Africa at its wildest.

Zambia offers exceptional wildlife viewing, especially in the Luangwa and Zambezi Valleys. Lion, leopard, elephant, hippo, and buffalo are common, along with rare species like wild dogs, sitatunga, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. South Luangwa is famous for its leopard sightings, while the Lower Zambezi boasts thriving elephant and predator populations along the riverbanks.

Zambia is also a birding hotspot, with over 750 species recorded. Carmine bee-eaters nest in the riverbanks of Luangwa from late August to October, while shoebills can be found in the Bangweulu wetlands. Thanks to the country’s low visitor numbers and small, owner-run camps, wildlife encounters here often feel exclusive and unhurried.

When to Visit Zambia

Zambia is a highly seasonal destination, with the timing of your trip playing a big role in the type of safari experience you’ll have.

The dry season, from May to October, is ideal for classic game viewing, as animals gather around shrinking water sources and the bush thins out. The green season, from November to April, transforms the landscape into a lush, vibrant wilderness, attracting migratory birds and offering beautiful photographic conditions. Each season has its charm – whether you’re drawn to the drama of predator sightings in the dry months or the solitude and softness of the rains.
