Botswana

Where raw beauty meets refined exploration.

One of Africa’s premier safari destinations - renowned for its vast, pristine wilderness, low-impact tourism model, and extraordinary biodiversity

This landlocked country is bordered by Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa, with landscapes ranging from the shimmering salt pans of the Makgadikgadi to the teeming floodplains of the Okavango Delta - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest inland deltas.

Botswana’s national parks and private concessions, including Chobe, Moremi, and the Central Kalahari, are sparsely populated and expertly managed, offering travellers an exclusive and immersive safari experience.

Game viewing is exceptional year-round, with the dry season from May to October being particularly rewarding as wildlife gathers around limited water sources. Botswana is also a leader in conservation and photographic safaris, with expert guides and intimate camps providing exceptional insights into the natural world.

Whether you’re gliding silently in a mokoro through the Delta, tracking big cats across the savannah, or witnessing the massive elephant herds of Chobe, Botswana promises a safari experience that is both deeply moving and remarkably untamed.

Wildlife in Botswana

A premier big game destination

Botswana is celebrated for its extraordinary wildlife diversity and exceptional game viewing. From the legendary elephant herds of Chobe to the elusive predators of the Central Kalahari, the country is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

Botswana is home to the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo – alongside cheetahs, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, zebras, and abundant hippo and crocodile populations. Antelope species flourish in Botswana’s varied ecosystems, including sable, roan, kudu, tsessebe, springbok, impala, and the rare sitatunga in the Delta. Birdwatchers are equally rewarded, with over 580 bird species recorded, from bee-eaters and rollers to fish eagles and wattled cranes.

Unique wildlife encounters abound: the Okavango Delta offers the rare chance to spot animals from a mokoro (traditional canoe), while the Kalahari provides sightings of desert-adapted species like brown hyena and meerkat.

The country’s low-density tourism model means that wildlife sightings are often exclusive, free from crowds and enhanced by expert guiding in private concessions.
With its range of habitats – from watery channels and riverine forests to arid plains and salt pans – Botswana delivers one of the most intimate and rewarding safari experiences on the continent.
